Lafarge & Faruk Holding Open a Kindergarten & Health Center
On 6th of April 2014, Lafarge and Faruk Holding opened a Kindergarten and a Health Centre in Tainal Village, Suleimaniyah; the opening was attended by Nicolas Toulemonde, General Manager of Cement BU North and Faruk Mustafa Rasool, Chairman of Faruk Holding.
The Kindergarten is an initiative of Lafarge's Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme. The implementation of the project started towards the end of 2012 and was completed in November 2013. Lafarge is dedicated to contribute to the economic, social and environmental progress of local communities.Supporting and aiding the development of the communities in which Lafarge operates in is one of the key tenets of Lafarge's CSR programme.
Speaking at the event, Nicolas Toulemonde, General Manager of Cement BU North (Lafarge) said:
"Supporting our local communities is one of the main pillars in our sustainable development ambitions; we have been creating social and economic value for the region and for the country for over 5 years and we see this as an investment in the future. Besides creating local jobs and supporting our people for professional development, CSR activities play an important role in our relations with local communities. We see education, health and culture as the main axis in this respect. "
The Kindergarten, is just one of the educational projects that Lafarge is supporting and it is comprised of five classrooms fully equipped to meet the children's needs. The project is of great benefit to the local community and has had a positive impact on the village.
In the last five years, Lafarge has spent over $4 million USD on social, educational and cultural advancement projects in Iraq. Lafarge believes that without giving back to the local communities in which they operate there cannot be sustainability and long term acceptance of the company's vision to building a better world for the communities.
The Health Centre, funded by Faruk Holding a partner of Lafarge in Iraq, will support the village in its basic health needs and ensure easier access to health care for the community. During his speech, Faruk Mustafa Rasool, Chairman of Faruk Holding, underlined that Faruk Holding and its partners were committed to actively supporting their local communities in order to lead the nation towards a brighter, more prosperous future through investment in sustainable industrial, social, and economic development.
